Driver accused of DUI, manslaughter in car crash that killed passenger near Fresno
A woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI and manslaughter after her passenger was killed in a crash early Saturday morning just west of Fresno, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver, Angie Thao, 24, of Fresno, was driving a white 2002 Acura RSX at an unknown speed northbound on Marks Avenue shortly before 4 a.m.
She ran the stop sign at the corner of Jensen and Marks avenues and drove into the path of a black 2013 Nissan truck driving at 65 mph, said Sgt. Dusten Dimmer. Her passenger in the front seat, a 38-year-old man, died.
She received major injuries and was unconscious when first responders arrived on the scene. She was sent to Community Regional Medical Center Fresno.
The man driving the Nissan, 39, and a passenger, a 34-year-old woman, both of Fresno, had minor injuries. A 15-year-old boy in the car was not injured.
Drunk drivers are one of the things officers are keeping an eye for during the holiday weekend. It’s a “maximum enforcement period” for the CHP, meaning there are extra officers on the roads.
