Troopers: Driver hit by tractor-trailer on I-77 in Cornelius, airlifted to hospital

A person was airlifted to the hospital after being hit by a car on Interstate 77 in Cornelius, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The driver of the blue Dodge Charger lost control of their car and hit a guardrail between exits 28 and 30. The driver got out of their vehicle and while getting items from the passenger side, they were struck by a tractor-trailer, pinning the driver in the car.

The driver of the tractor-trailer left the scene, but was later located in Surry County. The collision is under further investigation. Charges are pending against the driver of the tractor-trailer.
