PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The driver suspected of killing a pedestrian during a hit-and-run crash on 82nd Avenue early Monday morning is in police custody, authorities say.
Police arrested Portland resident Skyler Lee-Stiles, 26, shortly after his car struck the person crossing Southeast 82nd Avenue mid-block of the intersection connected to Flavel Street.
Investigators say Lee-Stiles was “speeding through a work zone” at the time of the crash and left the scene before officers arrived. His vehicle has been seized as evidence in the case.
Lee-Stiles faces charges of criminally negligent homicide, failure to perform the duties of a driver (death), and tampering with evidence.
The identity of the pedestrian has yet to be shared with the public, but KOIN 6 found that his death marks the second death on 82nd Avenue in 2024 – just two months into the new year.
