Driver arrested after tractor-trailer crash on I-95
Aug. 20—The driver of a tractor-trailer has been arrested after the vehicle rolled over on Interstate 95 in Augusta, closing northbound traffic in the area completely for an hour.
Miles McIntyre of Wildomar, California, was hauling a tractor-trailer filled with Pop-Tarts and Cheez-Its when it went off the right side of the road, struck rock ledges and rolled onto its side about 7:50 a.m. The cab came to rest partially in the right I-95 northbound lane near mile marker 115, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said.
The cause of the crash is suspected to be extreme driver fatigue, Moss said. Narcotics were allegedly recovered from the tractor-trailer by Maine State Police troopers.
McIntyre is charged with operating under the influence of drugs, driving to endanger and unlawful possession of methamphetamine. He was booked at the Kennebec County Jail.
The Maine Department of Agriculture inspected the Pop-Tarts and Cheez-Its to ensure the food was still safe for consumption.
Northbound traffic was completely closed for one hour, and reduced to one lane for three hours. The road has since reopened.
