UPDATED: Driver arrested after vehicle strikes and kills a woman walking dogs Friday night

A woman has died after being struck by a vehicle while she was out walking her dogs Friday night near the Monroe County Airport. A 32-year-old man who lives nearby faces a drunken driving causing death charge.

An initial report says 50-year-old Stacy Lamb of Bloomington was walking her dogs when she was struck about 8:45 p.m. on Airport Road near the intersection with Kirby Road. She was taken to IU Health-Bloomington hospital, where she died, according to Monroe County Sheriff's Office Lt. Troy Thomas.

Caleb Washburn, 2975 S. Bubby Roy Lane, was booked into the Monroe County Jail at 11:45 p.m. Friday on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated causing death and driving while suspended. His bond was set at $10,500. Washburn lives about two miles west of the crash site.

Monroe County Coroner Joani Stalcup said someone called 911 at 8:49 p.m. to report a pedestrian had been struck. Stalcup said she didn't know if the dogs were injured.

Sgt. Bennett Dillion from the sheriff's department is reconstructing the accident to determine how it happened.
