When deputies tried to stop the vehicle on Interstate 59, they said they saw a large weapon on the passenger’s seat. The driver reportedly didn’t comply when officers asked him to step out of the car.
Deputies put out spike strips on the elevated portion of U.S. 90. Once the vehicle’s tires were flat, it came to a stop in the 7000 block of the West Bank Expressway.
Officers worked for hours trying to talk the driver into getting out of the car. He was taken into custody around 2:15 p.m.
It’s unclear at this time if the person has any active warrants.
A state police SWAT team was on the scene, along with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office bomb squad, SWAT team and K-9 unit.
