One man died and another was injured Thursday morning after a driver failed to stop at a stop sign in the University Village neighborhood and struck them with his car, then was caught after running onto the Dan Ryan Expressway, according to Chicago police.

The crash happened about 10:25 a.m. in the 1100 block of South Morgan Street, according to a police media notification. The driver — a 32-year-old man, according to preliminary police information — was traveling north on Morgan when he passed the stop sign and struck the two pedestrians, a 26-year-old man and a 27-year-old man.

The man driving the car then crashed into a tree, got out of his car and ran onto the Dan Ryan Expressway before he was arrested at a public transportation location, according to the police notification.

Both men hit in the crash were taken to Stroger Hospital, where the 26-year-old was pronounced dead and the 27-year-old had a right shoulder injury and right chest pain but was in good condition, according to police.
