Driver charged with DUI after crash on I-65 in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man has been charged for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) following a crash that left a portion of I-65 closed early Monday morning in Williamson County.

According to officials, the crash happened shortly after 3:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-65 near mile marker 57 on Monday, Feb. 12.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office posted on X — formerly known as Twitter — at 4:23 a.m. on Monday stating, “Both I-65 South and I-65 Northbound are shut down at the 57-mile marker near 840.”

According to a crash report provided by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the driver of a 1998 Honda ULX — identified as a 21-year-old from Mexico — was traveling south on I-65 when he hit a concrete barrier.

Authorities reported he overcorrected to the right lane, which caused a 2016 Freightliner to hit the passenger side of his vehicle due to not having enough time to stop.

THP said the impact caused the Honda to spin back around and come to final rest in lanes one and two.

Meanwhile, the crash caused the semi to cross the center grass median, hit a guardrail and cross over the northbound lanes before coming to a final rest, officials said.

In a crash report, THP stated the 21-year-old was injured in the crash and charged with DUI and driving without a license and insurance.

The 43-year-old semi-truck driver from Alabama did not sustain any injuries in the crash, officials said. He was wearing his seatbelt when the crash occurred.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-65 were partially closed early Monday morning as crews worked to clear the scene.

No other information was immediately released.
