Driver dies at NC hospital after Chester County SC crash, trooper says

A driver in a crash last week in Chester County, who was airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte, has died, officials said.

The driver’s name has not yet been released because the driver died in North Carolina, said Terry Tinker, Chester County Coroner.

The single-vehicle wreck happened Nov. 29, on Westbrook Road, which is south of the York County line near the Lando community, said Trooper Joe Hovis of the S.C. Highway Patrol. The driver was alone in a 1998 Buick when the car went off the road and hit a tree, Hovis said.

The driver was taken by helicopter to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where the driver died late Monday, Hovis said.

The S.C. Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the crash.

The fatality is the 15th in Chester County in 2021, according to statistics from the public safety department. In 2020, there were 11 fatalities on Chester County highways, statistics show.
