Driver dies in one-vehicle crash on Route 38 in Cherry Hill

CHERRY HILL – A motorist died and a passenger was injured in a predawn crash on Route 38 on Sunday.

Cherry Hill police said the accident, which occurred shortly before 4:10 a.m., closed the westbound highway for several hours between Church and Mill roads.

A witness reported the victims' vehicle was cut in half .

"Oh my God! Prayers for everybody, please," Dwayne Davis of Camden said in a video recorded at the scene and posted to his Facebook page.

"A Cherry Hill police officer had to calm me down," Davis said in a Facebook post.

Davis, who came upon the crash scene after visiting a Wawa, said the emotional impact made it difficult for him to sleep afterwards.

"I just remembered a firefighter saying, "We got one breathing," Davis said in a Facebook post.

Additional details, including the driver's name, were not immediately available from authorities.

It was the second deadly accident in Camden County within a week.

A pedestrian was fatally struck Feb. 11 on East Holly Avenue in Haddon Township, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

That crash occurred around 6:10 p.m.

The prosecutor’s office did not release the victim’s name and other details, citing an ongoing investigation.
