Driver dies in two-vehicle crash in Saylor Township

A man died after a two-vehicle car wreck in Saylor Township.

Polk County Sheriff's department responded to a 911 accident at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the department.

A 2016 Ford Focus was traveling east on Northwest 54th Avenue crossing Northwest Sixth Street and was hit by a 2020 Chevrolet Cube truck going south. The release said the truck was occupied by the driver and one passenger, both were uninjured.

According to the release, the man in the Ford Focus was still in the vehicle with "critical injuries" when the Saylor Township Fire Department found him and began lifesaving efforts. The man later died at an area hospital.

The victim's name is being withheld at this time as the family is notified. The sheriff's office said the investigation remains active.
