Driver flees after crashing stolen truck into Springfield hair salon, causing gas leak

SPRINGFIELD — The driver of a stolen pickup truck crashed it into a Springfield hair salon early Friday, causing a large gas leak in the area.

Calhoun County deputies said the crash at Nature's Designs Hair Salon at 257 N. 20th Street happened at about 9:15 a.m. Friday.

The pickup sheared off a natural gas line when it struck the business, causing the leak.

The driver fled the scene, police said. No one at the business was injured.

North 20th Street was briefly closed while Semco Energy workers turned off the gas and secured the area.

Police determined the pickup was stolen out of Battle Creek. The vehicle was turned over to the Battle Creek Police Department.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office at 269-781-0880 or Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
