Driver in Hingham Apple Store crash indicted on 25 charges, including murder
BROCKTON — The man authorities say drove his car through the front of the Hingham Apple Store last fall has been indicted in the crash, which killed a New Jersey man and injured 22 others, including a Hyannis firefighter.
Bradley Rein, 53, of Hingham, was indicted by a Plymouth County grand jury Tuesday on a charge of second-degree murder, as well as charges of motor vehicle homicide by reckless driving, reckless driving, four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and 18 counts of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
The indictments transfer the case to Superior Court, where more serious crimes are tried and longer sentences can be imposed upon conviction.
Rein will be arraigned on the charges in Brockton Superior Court. A date has not been set.

At about 10:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, a Toyota 4Runner crashed into the glass-plated storefront of the Apple Store at Derby Street, reaching the back wall and trapping several people inside. Kevin Bradley, 65, of New Jersey, who was working outside the front of the store at the time, was killed.
A Hyannis firefighter was one of the people injured when the SUV barreled through the glass doors, Hyannis Fire Department Deputy Chief Mark Storie told the Times in November. Storie declined to share details about the identity or condition of the firefighter.

State Trooper Andrew Chiachio wrote in a police report, "While driving in the area of Barnes and Noble, Mr. Rein stated his right foot became stuck on the accelerator and his vehicle accelerated. Mr. Rein stated he used his left foot to try to brake, but was unable to stop the vehicle and crashed through the front of the Apple store."
Chiachio said Rein told him he was at Derby Street Shops to repair a lens in his eyeglasses, which he was not wearing at the time of the crash. He was given an alcohol breath test at the police station, which detected no alcohol in his blood.
At Rein's District Court arraignment, court-appointed attorney Alison King said Rein, who has lived in Hingham for a year and has two children, has no connection to the store or any of the victims. He has no criminal record in Massachusetts. He was charged with drunken driving in Vermont several years ago, but that charge has been expunged.
The Apple Store reopened in January, almost two months after the fatal crash.
