After a driver reported hitting a man lying in Manatee Avenue on Thursday night, Bradenton police are trying to figure out how the man got there.

The crash happened at 11:23 p.m. on Manatee Avenue East at 19th Street East, police said in a news release.

Police said they received a call from a woman who said she hit a man who was lying in the westbound lanes of Manatee Avenue East.

The woman cooperated with traffic homicide investigators, and it is not believed she was involved in criminal conduct, the release said.

Investigators are now trying to figure out how the man ended up lying on the road, whether he was a victim of a hit-and-run crash or whether something else caused him to be in the road, the release said.

The police are also working to contact the man’s next of kin.
