Driver hits multiple homes after falling asleep at the wheel; Two people sent to area hospital

Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a driver fell asleep at the wheel of a van Wednesday morning, according to a spokesperson with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 5:15 a.m., deputies from Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) and Harrison Township Substation responded to a vehicle into a residence in the 2500 block of Otello Avenue, the spokesperson said in the media release.

When officers arrived they found a Toyota van resting against the front porch of 2540 Otello Avenue, the spokesperson said.

The initial investigation determined that the driver of the van fell asleep in his car that was parked in his driveway with the van in gear, the spokesperson said. At some point the driver took his foot off the brake and the van began to travel slightly west.

The van then hit a fence at 2529 Otello Avenue, rolled through another yard striking the left corner of the residence before coming to a stop against the porch of 2540 Otello Avenue, the spokesperson said.

The driver and front seat passenger of the car were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, the spokesperson said in the release.

MCSO is continuing to investigate this incident, the spokesperson said.
