Driver hospitalized after sports car smashes into back of semi-truck

At least one person was injured Thursday afternoon after the driver of a sports car crashed into the back of a semi-truck.

The crash happened around noon on the 5 Freeway at Lake Hughes Road near Castaic, according to the California Highway Patrol online incident log.

Video from Sky5 showed the front half of an orange Chevrolet Corvette completely flattened by the back of the big rig. A flatbed truck was called to the scene to remove the totaled sports car from the wheels of the truck.

The caller who reported the crash alleged that the driver was driving recklessly and crashed into the center divider multiple times before running into the back of the semi-truck.

Multiple lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway were shut down due to the crash.

Authorities confirmed that one person was trapped in the heavily damaged Corvette. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene to cut that person out of the vehicle and transport them to a local hospital for treatment.

That person’s condition is unclear.

The crash is under investigation.
