Driver injured when car hits cow in northern Berks

Jul. 23—A driver was taken to Lehigh valley Hospital near Allentown after his car struck a cow in Richmond Township, Fleetwood police said Saturday in a press release.

Cody Hunsicker, 30, Hamburg, was injured shortly before 3:30 a.m. Friday on Route 662. The township contracts with Fleetwood for police services.

Hunsicker was southbound and didn't see the dark-colored cow on the road in time to stop. The car hit the cow and continued for about 100 feet before hitting a utility pole, police said.

The road was reopened by 4:30 a.m. Fleetwood and Walnuttown fire crews and fire police assisted, police added.

Further details were not provided. Hunsicker's condition at LVH was not available.

Police didn't specifically say that the cow was killed but that "the animal was removed from the roadway by the owner."
