Driver killed in Bridgewater tractor trailer crash

A tractor-trailer driver died in a one-vehicle crash Sunday morning on Route 8 in the town of Bridgewater, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver, who was alone in the tractor-trailer, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified the driver as Getachew Mengesha, 46, of Rochester.

Deputies were called to the scene at about 6:34 a.m.

The driver had apparently failed to negotiate a curve at the intersection of Route 8 and Pritchard Road, deputies and investigators determined after an investigation. The tractor-trailer then struck a tree and a guard rail before reaching a creek embankment and coming to rest partially in the creek, deputies said.
