Driver killed after car goes off overpass in Georgetown
A driver was killed Tuesday afternoon after their car went off an overpass in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood, according to the Seattle Fire Department.
At about 2:30 p.m., a car heading north on the First Avenue South Bridge was exiting onto South Michigan Street when it plummeted off the ramp and fell 40 to 50 feet onto the street below at Michigan and Occidental, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Video of the incident shows the car appearing to travel at a high rate of speed when it hit the Jersey barrier, sending it over the ramp.
The Washington State Patrol confirmed that the driver was speeding at the time of the crash.
The car came to a stop after it rolled over multiple times and came to rest on its passenger side.
Video of the crash shows people rushing over to help.
The driver, a 50-year-old man, died at the scene, according to SFD.
No other injuries were reported.
