Wadsworth woman killed in head-on crash on state Route 21 in Norton

A driver was killed in a head-on crash on state Route 21 in Norton on Monday morning, according to the Norton Police Department.

The department said in a news release that the crash was around 7 a.m. Monday on state Route 21 southbound at the Dorothy Road overpass.

According to police, witnesses said a vehicle traveling north lost control and crossed the median, striking a vehicle head-on in the southbound lane.

Police said that one driver was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, and the other driver, who had to be extricated from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office identified the driver as Cynthia Bishop, 64, of Wadsworth.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Summit County Medical Examiner's Office and Summit Metro Crash Response Team helped the Norton Police Department with the crash investigation.

At the time of the crash, the area was under a winter weather advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, because of a mixed precipitation of snow and ice.

The weather service said Monday morning to expect slippery road conditions, with the main impacts on untreated roadways and elevated objects and a light glaze possible on bridges.
