A 25-year-old Montgomery Creek woman was killed Saturday morning when her 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt ran head-on into a 2014 Peterbilt truck-tractor, the California Highway Patrol said.
The woman was going west on the highway just west of Pit No. 1 Powerhouse Road near Fall River Mills at 5:05 a.m. when the CHP said she crossed over the double-yellow lines and struck the Peterbilt, which was going east up a grade.
The Cobalt was going 55 to 60 mph while the truck was going 45 mph, the CHP said.
The Peterbilt, driven by Jose Ramirez, 25, of Corning, was towing an unloaded flat-bed trailer. Ramirez and his passenger, Vincent Ramirez, 50, also of Corning, were not injured.
The CHP says a preliminary investigation shows alcohol was not a factor in the crash and the woman was not wearing a seat belt.
