Driver killed after pickup truck rolled, crashed into building on Keo Way

Des Moines Police Department patrol officers and Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 1700 block of Keo Way, according to a news release.

First responders arrived around 9:40 p.m. Saturday to find a pickup truck that left the roadway. It rolled multiple times the release said and then crashed into a building. The driver, a 26-year-old male, had been ejected from the truck. No other passengers were in the vehicle. The driver was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

The truck, according to Des Moines Police spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek, was traveling north on Keo Way when it left the roadway after passing under the University Avenue bridge. It then crossed all the lanes, leaving the roadway over the south curb and rolled before crashing into the building.

Des Moines Police Traffic Unit is investigating this crash, which caused the second traffic-related fatality of 2023.
