Driver killed when truck flips several times after running off SC road, cops say

A South Carolina man was killed when a truck crashed and flipped over, officials said.

Noel Tucker Moss, 21, died after Saturday’s accident, Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox said.

The single-vehicle collision happened at about 2 a.m. in Greenwood County, according to Cpl. David Jones of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Moss was driving a Chevrolet south on Ross Road when the truck ran off the left side of the road, Jones said. The Chevy crashed into an embankment, according to Cox. It then overturned several times, Jones said.

Moss was taken to an area hospital where he died at 2:39 a.m. of blunt force trauma caused by the injuries he suffered in the wreck, according to Cox.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if Moss was wearing a seat belt.

Information about what caused the Chevy to veer off the road was not available, but the collision continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

Through June 11, at least 445 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2023, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,091 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least nine people have died in Greenwood County crashes in 2023, according to DPS data. Last year, 13 deaths were reported in the county, DPS reported.
