Driver’s license services at Virginia DMV locations will be unavailable Saturday

Driver’s license services will be unavailable at Department of Motor Vehicles locations across Virginia on Saturday due to network maintenance.

According to a release from the DMV, network maintenance will affect access to the National Driver Register — an essential external licensing system. Before anyone receives a license, DMV staff must check the federal NDR database, so the outage would prevent staff from accessing the system, which is required by law.

Other services from the DMV, such as ID cards, will still be available. Online renewal services may be available during the database outage, but replacements of lost or stolen driver’s licenses will not be available.
