Two people were killed in a car crash in the Woodlawn Park neighborhood Saturday, according to Louisville police.

George and Margaret Herbig, ages 82 and 76, were traveling along Westport Road when their SUV collided with another vehicle.

The Herbigs were trying to make a left turn from Ambridge Drive into the eastbound lanes of Westport Road when their vehicle crashed into a vehicle traveling west. Police responded to a call about the incident about 5 p.m.

The Herbigs were pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, identified in court records as 31-year-old Alyssha McFadden, was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

McFadden, of Louisville, was charged with two counts of murder and one count of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol in connection with the crash, according to court records.

Police found an open container of alcohol in her vehicle at the scene of the crash, her arrest citation claims, and the citation says her blood alcohol level was 0.210 at the hospital after the crash.

McFadden is scheduled to be arraigned Friday and did not immediately have an attorney listed in court records.

The LMPD traffic unit led the investigation.

Metro Councilwoman Paula McCraney, whose district includes the area where the crash occurred, said in a weekend statement she was "saddened" by the news.

"As I await the investigative report from LMPD Traffic Unit, I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured and extend my sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives," the statement said.
