Driver plunges 100 feet off road over cliff, California cops say. Video shows rescue
A driver needed rescuing after going off-road and ending up in a ravine, 100 feet from the road, just northwest of Santa Rosa, California, officials said.
The car went “down a steep embankment” on Aug. 18, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
First responders from the Sonoma County Fire District and the Santa Rosa Fire Department tried to reach the driver by rope. Then, members of the county air patrol lowered a paramedic on a 200-foot-long cable from their helicopter down to the ravine, deputies said.
The driver was airlifted out of the ravine and sent to a local trauma hospital by ambulance, deputies said.
The release did not provide the current condition of the driver.
Santa Rosa is about 50 miles northwest of San Francisco.
