Driver pulls woman out, flees after backing into her, police say. Victim died.

TAMPA — A 29-year-old Tampa woman backed her car into another woman, fatally injuring her, then pulled the woman free and fled the scene, police said.

The driver, Queenasia Powell of Tampa, was arrested soon after on charges of DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash with death, and driving without a valid license with death.

The incident occurred about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 10100 block of N. 11th St., east of North Nebraska Ave.

Powell was sitting in the driver’s seat of a gray Honda Accord while the victim was standing outside of the vehicle, Tampa police said in a news release. Powell placed the vehicle in reverse and accelerated backwards, striking and dragging the victim, police said.

Powell got out and pulled the victim from under the car, noting she had serious injuries. Powell fled the scene without rendering aid, but officers responding to the incident quickly apprehended her, police said.

Police did not identify the victim.
