Driver of replica DeLorean has heart attack, dies on Hwy 178

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The owner of a replica DeLorean, from the “Back to the Future” franchise has died in a crash Sunday on Highway 178.

The Bakersfield Police Department said officers were called for a report of a crash at a Shell gas station on Comanche Drive and Highway 178 at around 4:45 p.m.

Video from the scene showed the aftermath of the crash with the vehicle’s front end damaged. Police said the driver of the vehicle lost control and crashed into a curb. In a statement, police said witnesses said and evidence showed the driver may have suffered a medical emergency before the crash.

A woman posted on Facebook Sunday night, saying her father, Paul Nigh, was the driver of the DeLorean replica and suffered a heart attack while driving, which led to the crash.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
