Driver seriously hurt after car slams into side of semi trailer in Box Elder Co.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A driver suffered serious injuries Tuesday morning when his car slammed into the side of a semi trailer in northern Utah.

Sgt. Cameron Roden, with Utah Highway Patrol, said the collision happened shortly before 7 a.m. on State Route 83 in Box Elder County, roughly a mile east of Corinne.

According to Roden, the semi pulled out of a Walmart distribution center in front of a Toyota Camry. The Camry crashed into the side of the trailer, with much of the vehicle becoming wedged underneath.

The crash was initially reported as fatal, Roden said, but the driver survived. Still, it took crews a while to extradite the driver, identified as a 30-year-old man, from the car.

Emergency crews brought the driver to a nearby hospital in serious condition, Roden said. The driver is expected to survive.

Both directions of State Route 83 were closed as crews worked the scene, causing delays during the early part of the morning commute. The road has since reopened.
