Driver stops to perform ‘spiritual ritual’ on dead opossum, Wisconsin 911 call says

Two people called Wisconsin police on Monday to report a woman who was allegedly performing a ceremony on roadkill.

Just after 1 p.m., police in Waukesha received a call from a concerned driver about a woman who was “performing a spiritual ritual” on what she believed to be a dead cat in the middle of the road, according to a transcript of the call.

The woman’s car was parked in the right lane with the driver’s side door open, police say.

“I just don’t want her to get hit,” the caller told the dispatcher.

A second call came in not long after.

The second caller told dispatchers that he’d previously been behind the woman in traffic and that she’d been driving erratically, randomly slamming on her brakes and weaving in and out of traffic, according to audio from the call.

He said the woman ultimately drove out of the intersection and into a nearby parking lot, according to audio.

The second caller explained that the woman had been pelting roadkill — later determined to be a dead opossum — with Goldfish crackers and dousing it with windshield washer fluid before pulling out a Green Bay Packers lawn chair to sit in while demanding the opossum “repent.”

Officers were dispatched to the area and made contact with the woman at 1:18 p.m., documents indicate.

The dead opossum was ultimately removed from the road, police say.
