Driver who struck pedestrian in Ramapo charged with attempted murder

RAMAPO − Town of Ramapo police charged a driver with attempted murder after he hit a pedestrian Thursday afternoon.

Police said they took that step after an investigation determined that the driver deliberately hit the pedestrian. Police said the two men know each other and have an ongoing dispute.

According to police, they received a report of a pedestrian being hit by a motor vehicle at about 3:20 p.m. Thursday in the Hillcrest Plaza on North Main Street.

When officers arrived, they found a man who had suffered serious injuries as a result of being hit by the vehicle. The man, who was not identified, was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla by the Spring Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

The driver, who remained on the scene, was identified as Edward Grigsby, 48, of Central Nyack. He was charged with attempted second-degree murder, a felony.

Grigsby was arraigned in Town of Ramapo Court by Airmont Associate Village Justice Alan Straus and sent to Rockland County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail, pending a future court appearance.

The Rockland County Sheriff's Office assisted Ramapo police in the investigation.
