Drivers should expect big traffic delays through downtown St. Louis this weekend

Beginning Friday, drivers using Interstate 44 in downtown St. Louis should expect notable traffic delays, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Crews will shutdown both eastbound and westbound I-44 between the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge and the I-44/I-55 split south of 7th and Park, starting Friday. Additional closures are scheduled on ramps on I-44/I-55 to the eastbound I-64, and the ramp from westbound I-64 to westbound I-44/southbound I-55 starting at 7 p.m.

Lanes going in both directions of I-44 will be closed by 8 p.m.

The ramps and all lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

The interstate closure is needed for crews to work safely and operate equipment. Construction crews will be placing girders on the Broadway Bridge over I-44 and removing girders from the Terminal Railroad Association-owned MacArthur Bridge over the interstate, MoDOT announced.

Detour routes for I-64 detour routes can be found here, along with the I-70 detour routes here.

Tucker, Jefferson and portions of Broadway will be mainly be used for detours.
