Which drivers have raced the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 double? The list is short

With Kyle Larson announcing he will compete in the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 in 2024, he joins a short list of drivers who have competed in both races on the same day during Memorial Day weekend.

Here is a list of which drivers have attempted the historic double, which features 1,100 miles of racing and is also known as The Double. And that's not including the 575 miles of travel between Indianapolis and Charlotte.

Robby Gordon attempted The Double five times

Robby Gordon made his first attempt in 1997 and qualified for both races, but the Indy 500 was postponed by rain and was eventually completed two days later.

Gordon also attempted The Double in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Tony Stewart raced The Double twice

Tony Stewart raced The Double in 1999 and 2001. Out of the drivers who have attempted to complete both races, Stewart is the only one to finish both, doing so in a combined 7 hours, 43 minutes and 42 seconds in 2001.

During that historic day in 2001, Stewart finished sixth at Indianapolis and third at Charlotte.

John Andretti was the first driver to race The Double

In 1994, John Andretti was the first to start both races. He started the Indy 500 in the third row, two rows behind cousin Michael and one behind uncle Mario. John ran as high as third and finished 10th, four laps behind winner Al Unser Jr.

After flying to Charlotte, Andretti eventually finished 36th, dropping out on lap 220 with engine failure.

Kurt Busch is the most recent driver to compete in both races at Indy and Charlotte

Kurt Busch is the latest driver to take on The Double, doing so in 2014. That year he finished sixth at Indianapolis and was the highest-finishing rookie. Busch tied Gordon and Stewart with his sixth-place finish in Charlotte, which equaled the best showing for The Double drivers.

Davy Jones nearly did The Double but fell short

Davy Jones attempted The Double in 1995. While he qualified for the Indy 500, he failed to do so at the Coca-Cola 600.
