Drivers ready? City of Boston launches a new parking app Monday

Some changes are on tap for drivers who park in the City of Boston. The city is using a new parking app, and it launches on Monday.

Boston has partnered with ParkMobile and the new app will replace the current version of the ParkBoston app. The city says it offers “an enhanced user experience and more functionality.”

Users of the new ParkBoston app will be able to pay for parking by using their mobile devices at more than 7,000 spots across the city.

ParkBoston requires a minimum purchase of 12 minutes of parking, the city says.

What you need to know:

If you have “auto updates” the app will automatically update on Monday, August 15. Users need to create an account after getting the latest version of ParkBoston.

“If you don’t have auto-updates, you will need to download the latest version in your App Store on Monday, August 15, 2022. The old version of ParkBoston will no longer work after that date,” says the city.

If you already have an existing ParkMobile account, you can use those same credentials to log into the new ParkBoston app.

If you have a “wallet” with funds in the previous version of the ParkBoston app, the City of Boston said it will begin initiating refunds to the user’s credit cards on file on August 13, 2022. You should see a refund from “PAS*PASSPT PK BOSTON” on your statement, according to the city. The wallet feature will return in the new app starting on August 15.

“Convenience” fee

A convenience fee is applied to each parking transaction in Boston when using the ParkBoston app, the city says.

The convenience fee is $0.35 per individual parking transaction and $0.25 per ParkMobile Wallet payment for zones located in Boston, effective August 15.
