Mourners paused on the shoulder of a freeway in Rancho Cucamonga, California, on September 21, as a procession passed carrying the body of 20-year-old Marine Lance Corporal Dylan Merola, who was killed in Afghanistan in a suicide bombing August 26.

The scale of the procession was caught in video shared by Robert Volm, who said he was standing on an overpass overlooking the 210 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga.

KNBC reported that “thousands” turned out to pay their respects to the Rancho Cucamonga local, whose casket was draped in an American flag and carried through the streets of his hometown in a black hearse.
