Yahoo Autos Driving the Vanderhall Laguna, A Bizarre Front-Drive Three-Wheeler
When you think of a three-wheeled car, you usually think of something like the Morgan 3-Wheeler or the Campagna T-Rex. They're legally considered motorcycles in the U.S., and while styling differs wildly, power usually goes to the rear wheel, and it tends to come from a motorcycle engine.
But what if your three-wheeler was less of a motorcycle alternative, and more of a lightweight highway cruiser? That's the kind of vehicle Utah's Vanderhall set out to build, and the fascinatingly unconventional result is this, the Laguna.
The Laguna pairs an aluminum chassis with a carbon fiber body, which helps it maintain a weight of 1550 lbs. Under the hood, GM's 1.4-liter turbocharged engine makes 200 horsepower. But instead of sending the power to the back, it goes to the front wheels via either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. It's basically the entire drivetrain from a Chevrolet Sonic, stuffed into a very teensy envelope.
So what's it like to drive? Matt Farah got the opportunity to try one out recently, and as you can imagine, the whole experience was definitely interesting.
