Drone Footage Captures Migrants Crossing Rio Grande

US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas met with Haitian Ambassador to the US Bocchit Edmond to discuss “continued cooperation” between the nations on Wednesday, September 29, as migrants continued to cross the Rio Grande from Mexico.

This video filmed by Auden Cabello on Tuesday shows a group crossing the river into the backyard of a residence in Del Rio, where they were received by the Texas Department of Public Safety, he wrote in a tweet.

Mayorkas said that the “dignified and humane treatment of all individuals, regardless of their immigration status, is his top priority,” according to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) press release.

According to Mayorkas, the investigation into the mistreatment of migrants is ongoing, the DHS wrote.

On September 28, Texas Gov Greg Abbott renewed the state’s border security disaster declaration.

A day later, Abbott announced a decision to appeal the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s denial of the state’s Federal Emergency Declaration request for “supplemental federal assistance to respond to the thousands of illegal crossings along the border.” Credit: Auden Cabello via Storyful
