Drone footage shows deforestation in Brazilian Amazon

STORY: On Thursday (January 19) Brazil launched its first raids against illegal deforestation in the Amazon rainforest in Para under President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva after the new leader's pledge to end destruction that surged under his predecessor Jair Bolsonaro.

Raids were led by environmental agency Ibama – which was underfunded and understaffed during Bolsonaro’s term - to stop loggers and ranchers illegally clearing the forest.
