The drones will fly over the Falls on Thursday

Oct. 3—Three hundred drones are set to take flight on Thursday night in Niagara Falls, Ont.

The test of drone technology was originally planned for this past Friday but a police incident in downtown Niagara Falls, Ont., led to the rescheduling.

The flight is scheduled for 9 p.m. as Canadian Company, North Star Drones, will operate 300 drones at approximately 400 feet in the sky between the Skylon Tower and Clifton Hill. The test will feature drone lights forming shapes that represent a selection of the many world-class attractions Niagara Falls has to offer visitors.

The objective of the test is to understand sight lines in the area. It will have no audio component. The test show will last approximately ten minutes, beginning at 9 pm.

Organizers have continually cautioned that there is no immediate plan to replace fireworks at Niagara Falls with drones. This test is part of a larger discussion about whether drone shows may represent a viable supplementary addition to fireworks at Niagara Falls while ensuring to preserve the natural environment. The test will assist in educating stakeholders with regards to show content, length, sight lines and other relevant information.

The pathway between Robinson (Skylon Tower) and Clifton Hill will be closed to pedestrian traffic for safety reasons for the duration of the show and until the drones have landed (about 9:30 p.m.)

The show can be seen from various vantage points within Queen Victoria Park, between the base of Clifton Hill and the bottom of Murray Street.
