For over a year, unidentified drones have been spotted over the training grounds and barracks of the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) in Germany, where Ukrainian soldiers are being trained.

Quote: "Drones are regularly spotted over the Klitz military training ground, where the Bundeswehr trains Ukrainians on Leopard 1 tanks. Sometimes several drones simultaneously enter the airspace of other bases," said Marcus Faber, a member of the Bundestag from the Free Democratic Party and a member of the Defence Committee.

Details: The official added that sometimes, several drones are recorded simultaneously.

Faber stressed that this is "clearly organised and points strongly to Russia".

The Bundeswehr is also suspecting Moscow of being behind the drone operations but cannot prove it.

The German Defence Ministry reported that none of the drones had been shot down.

Nils Hilmer, State's Secretary at the German Defence Ministry, explained that the first step is to consult with the Interior Ministry on matters of drone defence. Research is necessary to establish what protective assets are effective and how quickly they can be purchased.

"There is a huge backlog of demand when it comes to drones. One thing is clear: our army needs modern jammers. We need the results of the working group's activities over the next few months," Faber stated.

Background: After Russia's large-scale missile attacks on Ukraine, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, Chair of the German Bundestag’s Defence Committee, also advocated for Taurus missiles for Ukraine. She pointed out that Ukraine is currently in dire need of "artillery ammunition, Taurus and spare parts for the heavy equipment we supply".

Meanwhile, the German government persistently refuses to supply long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
