You can drop off your completed ballot at a Kern County drop box before Election Day. Here’s how and where.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Registered voters this week are receiving their ballot in the mail and are mulling over who to vote for in the March 5 primary election.

And after you properly fill out and sign your ballot, in Kern County, you have several ways of getting that ballot from your mailbox to the ballot box.

The Kern County Elections Division has set up 19 ballot drop boxes throughout the county in the hopes of collecting ballots from voters before Election Day.

From just about anywhere you live in Kern County, a ballot drop box is likely near you.

Voting by mail: How to get your ballot from your mailbox to the ballot box

I marked my ballot with my vote. What do I do next?

Since every registered voter will get a vote-by-mail ballot as required by state law, you have the option of mailing it back, or putting your ballot into an official, county-designated drop box instead of voting on Election Day at a polling location.

Before putting your ballot into the drop box, you must insert and seal the ballot into the enclosed return envelope. Date and sign your name as it appears on your driver’s license on the return envelope. The envelope also asks for your residence address.

Your ballot must be signed for it to be counted, but there is a process to correct that error.

What do those ballot drop boxes look like?

The drop boxes have four legs, are white-colored and look like a big, oversized mailbox. The box has a slot near the top to insert your ballot.

Each box has a Kern County seal and has the words in red letters: Official Ballot Drop Box.

The drop box also has the phone number for the Kern County Elections Division — 661-868-3590 — if you have any questions. The box also lists the Kern County Election Division’s website: www.kernvote.com.
