The Dropout star Amanda Seyfried has reacted to Elizabeth Holmes starting her prison sentence.

The actress portrayed the former entrepreneur in the 2022 Hulu series, charting the events that led to Holmes being convicted on four counts of fraud earlier this year.

Holmes has now reported to prison to start an 11-year sentence, and in an interview with Good Morning America, Seyfried expressed sympathy for Holmes's two children – whom she welcomed before and after the trial.

"I feel for those kids," she replied. "Those two kids, they're hanging in the balance here. As a parent, as a mom, I'm just... life's not fair, but in a lot of ways it's fair for her in particular."

Holmes founded the biotechnology company Theranos in 2003, touting a revolution in blood testing for a variety of conditions with just a fingerprick, though the technology never worked and the company collapsed in 2018.

Alongside Seyfried, the show also starred Lost's Naveen Andrews as Sunny Balwani, Holmes's then-lover and Theranos' COO, as well as The Conners' Laurie Metcalf, Shameless' William H Macy, It's a Sin's Stephen Fry, Succession's Alan Ruck and 13 Reasons Why's Dylan Minnette.

Meanwhile, following the release of The Dropout, Jennifer Lawrence revealed that she had exited her own planned film about the tech mogul called Bad Blood, citing Seyfried's performance in the series.

"I thought she was terrific. I was like: 'Yeah, we don't need to redo that.' She did it," Lawrence told The New York Times.

The Dropout is streaming now on Disney+ in the UK and Hulu in the US.
