Drowning victim identified as North Mankato boy

Jun. 6—MANKATO — The 9-year-old boy who drowned Saturday at Spring Lake Park Swim Facility has been identified as Abdirahman Abdullahi, according to a release from the city of North Mankato.

Abdullahi, of North Mankato, was found unresponsive in about 4.5 feet of water at about 6:19 p.m., the statement said. Lifeguards reportedly removed him from the water and began CPR.

Abdullahi was pronounced dead after being transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The city of North Mankato announced the pool will be closed today as officials review safety procedures.
