A Mantua laundromat is closed following a dryer fire Tuesday morning.

Mantua-Shalersville Fire Chief Matt Roosa said there were no injuries and Suds Your Duds is in a standalone building, so no other structures were affected.

The alarm came in to respond at 10747 Main St. at 9:33 a.m.

“It was a fire in two dryers,” said Roosa. “Someone put some clothes in and two dryers caught on fire. The fire was contained to both dryers with no extension into the building. However, it caused extensive smoke damage throughout.”

Roosa said the person drying clothes left the building and no one else, including employees, were present at the self-serve laundromat when the fire started.

A post on Suds Your Duds Facebook page early Tuesday afternoon announced that the business is closed due to the fire, with an “unknown reopen date.”

“So what happens with smoke damage,” said Roosa, “is the smoke damage basically permeates everything…So everything's covered in soot. And it needs to be cleaned before the business can be opened; and the equipment replaced, some drywall, and stuff like that.”

Roosa said firefighters were on scene for about an hour. Mutual aid from other fire departments was not needed, he added.
