Dubai company upcycles action boards using green technology

STORY: This factory is using sustainable

technologies to upcycle action boards

such as this wakeboard and this snowboard

Location: Dubai, UAE

Dubai’s SWS Board Technology collects old

boards and reuses 95 percent of the materials

They export half a million boards across the world per year

constituting a third of the world’s snowboards

and half of the world’s kite boards

(Renske Visser, SWS Sustainability Officer)

"This is a board and it's got these welded boards integrated into a new board and basically a slab of five boards that are welded together that can be sliced and five of them, they produce 15 new boards. So, this is revolutionary because it's the first step towards a circular economy.”

The process is also almost fully powered

by large solar panels installed on the roof

VISSER: "In the UAE, we enjoy all year-round sunshine with 2.5 times higher voltaic potential than for the likes of Europe and the US, making solar energy very efficient here. So since 2020, we have close to 100 percent powered our productions with the beautiful sunshine that we have here in the UAE."
