Dubai's 'worship village' inaugurates Hindu temple

STORY: The opening of the temple comes fifty years after the older Hindu temple in Dubai and hopes to grow into not only a place of worship, but also a 'knowledge centre' and 'outreach program platform'.

The temple opened its doors to worshippers just hours before Indians around the world began marking the festival of 'Dussehra' – an annual event celebrating the triumph of good over evil.

During the festival, Hindus typically burn effigies of the mythological demon king Ravana, light firecrackers, and dress as gods.

"So today is officially the inauguration of the Hindu Temple in Dubai, we are now part of the worship village. This is a temple that has come in after almost fifty years of us opening the old Hindu temple in Bur Dubai," organizer Raju Shroff said, adding that the temple incorporates 16 different deities so that there is a place for all Hindus.
