The city of Dublin is to honor veterans in a ceremony Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Grounds of Remembrance at Dublin Veterans Park, 77 N. High St.

The annual ceremony is in partnership with the American Legion Wesley G. Davids Dublin Post 800.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony is to be moved to the auditorium of John Sells Middle School, 150 W. Bridge St., just west of Dublin Veterans Park.

This year’s ceremony is to include remarks from Commander of Post 800 and U.S. Army veteran Jeff Noble; Dublin Councilman and U.S. Army veteran John Reiner; and keynote speaker Lt. Col. Michael Kelvington, a U.S. Army veteran with 14 deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq and recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and two Purple Hearts for wounds sustained in combat on missions, including special operations, counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations.

Students from Sells Middle School are to place a ceremonial wreath and provide musical accompaniment at the ceremony.

Parking is available at the Darby Street lot, Indian Run lot and the garage attached to the Dublin branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library.

History of Veterans Day

Nov. 11 is known as Veterans Day today because it was the day in 1918 that battle ended in The Great War, known now as World War I.

Congress declared Nov. 11 as a federal holiday in 1938, known then as Armistice Day, and in 1954, Armistice Day became known as Veterans Day to account for veterans in other wars that had occurred since 1918.
