Dublin Jerome's Libby Grether named Columbus area high school athlete of the week
In a vote that ended Jan. 20, Dispatch.com readers selected the Athlete of the Week for competitions that took place from before Jan. 15.
The winner is Dublin Jerome swimmer Libby Grether.
Athlete of the Week: Here's how to nominate Columbus area high school sports athletes of the week in 2021-22
Grether won the 200 and 500 freestyle races and led the Celtics' winning 200 and 400 free relays at the Northeast Classic. Jerome finished second as a team behind Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown.
Grether received 40.2% of the vote and was followed by Briggs bowler Peyton Brobst, who got 34.7% of the vote, Canal Winchester basketball player Kate Ratliff (6.3%), Westerville North wrestler Evan Butcher (5.3%), Olentangy Liberty swimmer Hudson Williams (5%) and Olentangy Orange basketball player Elias Lewis (3.3%).

Probst , the runner-up, averaged a 244 in his two games with a high game of 264 in a tri-match against Eastmoor and Hartley. In a duel match against Marion Franklin, he averaged a 229 in his two games with a high of game of 256. He leads the central Ohio bowling conference with an average of 224 after 20 games.

Ratliff had 46 points, 21 rebounds, seven assists and nine steals and shot 60% from the field in games against Delaware Hayes and Big Walnut,
Butcher won the Licking Heights Invitational, going 4-0 in just 2:36 of total mat time. He pinned his first two opponents in 11 and 21 seconds. In the semifinals, he pinned a returning district qualifier in 52 seconds. In the final, he pinned state qualifier Aidan Rush from DeSales in 1:12.
Williams won the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle and led off the Patriots' first-place 200 medley relay at the Northeast Classic. In the 100 free, he broke the meet, pool and state record. Liberty finished second as a team behind Dublin Jerome.

Lewis scored a program-record 43 points in an 85-78 win over Thomas Worthington. That included a 3-pointer to force overtime.

Once athletes win during the regular season, they're not eligible to be back on the ballot until the postseason. Athletes who have not been a recipient of one of the weekly awards can be nominated more than once.
