Duchess of Cambridge Joins Carol Vorderman For Air Cadets Anniversary

The Duchess of Cambridge has once again proven the value of a great wardrobe staple, by nailing yet another recycled outfit.

The Duchess was attending her first official engagement of the year at the 75th anniversary of the RAF Air cadets in London. Looking typically elegant, she opted for a pale, cornflour blue, belted Alexander McQueen dress coat, which she’d first worn while attending a wreath-laying service in New Zealand in 2014.

This time around she swapped her sleek ponytail for loose locks, which, as usual, had been blow-dried to perfection.

Finishing the look with classic navy court pumps from Gianvito Rossi and a cute, black Lock and Co hat the Duchess proved her chic, repeat styling was a hit once more.

The outing marked her first official engagement as Honorary Air Commandant of the organisation – a role she took over from the Duke of Edinburgh in December last year. And in a fitting sartorial tribute to her new appointment, Kate opted to wear the Air Cadets Dacre brooch – which has previously been awarded to the top female ATC Cadet annually since 1982.

Lucinder Conder, 19, who was the best female cadet in 2015 and the last women to wear the brooch, revealed how proud she was to see Kate sporting it.

“It is quite an honour (to wear the brooch). I was the last cadet to wear it, and now she is wearing it. It is the best accessory,” she told The Telegraph.

And Lucinda also revealed that Kate had told her Prince George has a passion for planes and might one day join the Cadets himself.

The Duchess wasn’t the only celebrity in attendance, Carol Vorderman was also there. An honorary ambassador for the Air Cadets, Carol tweeted her support for Kate’s appearance. She said: ‘All of us in @aircadets are delighted today to be welcoming our Honorary Air Commandant, the Duchess of Cambridge.'

Carol, whose two children both attended the Air Cadets, believes that Kate will be a big help in attracting women in to what is often seen as a male-dominated sector.

She said: “Her husband is a pilot. Her brother-in-law is a pilot. Her father-in-law is a pilot. Her mum used to work in an airline. She obviously has a great appreciation of the military and enthusiasm for youth. ”

Kate now represents a group of 42,000 air cadets aged 12 to 19, as well as 15,000 adult volunteers at more than 1,200 units across the UK and abroad.
