Duck Donuts Opening First Nassau County Location This Weekend

GARDEN CITY PARK, NY — Duck Donuts, makers of unique donuts, announced that it will be opening its first location in Nassau County later this month. The new location, which will be in Garden City Park, is the third location for the company on Long Island.

The store is set to open on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 9 a.m., and is located at 2425 Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park, in the City park Plaza. Every customer on Jan. 22 and 23 will receive a free donut, the company said.

Owners Omar Athar and Sana Rafique grew up in the Garden City Park area and lived in Nassau County for more than 20 years. Today, they live in Suffolk County with their two children, where Rafique is a human resource professional and athar is an Auditor. The couple discovered Duck Donuts during the early days of the pandemic, when they were stuck at home and looking for something fun to do with their toddler.

“In 2020, we drove 50 minutes to visit the Hauppauge Duck Donuts location,” said Rafique. “Since there was no indoor seating allowed at the time, we devoured half a dozen warm, soft cake donuts using the trunk of our car as a table. We were hooked from the first bite and spent the whole drive home talking about how we could help bring a location closer to us. Omar reached out about opening this location the very next day.”

The 1,300-square-foot store reflects the franchise’s beach theme and family-friendly atmosphere. In addition to donuts, the Garden City Park location serves Duck Donuts’ coffee blends — Riptide Roast, Light House Blend and Sunset Pier Decaf — espresso, donut breakfast sandwiches, donut sundaes and more.

The store offers indoor seating, subject to COVID-19 protocols, and will offer online ordering and curbside pickup via the Duck Donuts Rewards app and website in the future.

Duck Donuts customers can create their own donut combination by choosing from a variety of coatings, toppings and drizzles, including traditional flavors such as chocolate icing with sprinkles and more adventurous creations such as maple icing with bacon. The stores offer a viewing area where children and adults alike can watch their donuts being made.

As part of the Quack Gives Back program, 5 percent of opening weekend’s sales will go to Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Quack Gives Back promotes partnering with community groups to raise awareness and funds for their causes.

The new Garden City Park store will be open seven days a week: Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
